As promised when they were elected in December, 1972, the Whitlam Labor Government had funded many new programs. Cabinet also made a record number of decisions in 1973, but by June 1973 inflation was rapidly on the rise as well. Prime Minister Gough Whitlam and Treasurer Frank Crean were well ahead of the budget which would not be brought down until August 21.
