Bids for companies had been tried both inside and outside the country. There had been much protest about selling off of Australian companies to overseas interests.
Chlorox of California had made a bid for Australia's iconic and beloved Kiwi shoe polish - used daily by thousands of school children and their parents.There were also bids for Minties and Jaffas
by the English Rowntree Company
The Senate Committee had to inquire into a list of 37 takeovers announced between July and September 1972.
