The two-airline system in Australia consisted of TAA (Trans Australian Airlines) and Ansett Airlines at this time. As the Ansett share of traffic decreased the buyers were circling. TNT had made an unsuccessful bid while TAA (which eventually merged in Qantas) continued to be profitable.
