Cheque?Federal Prime Minister John Gorton and Opposition Leader Gough Whitlam did not wish to have anything to do with Sir Henry Bolte's proposed Receipt Tax. The Liberal State Premier of Victoria from 1955 - 1972 had used state debt to provide a wide range of infrastructure especially during the early years of his premiership and was looking to the new tax to help pay some of the bills. |
