Apollo 8 mission lifts LBJ's spirits.

Astronauts Frank Borman, William Anders and James A. Lovell became the first people to break the bounds of the earth and travel to the Moon. They orbited the Moon ten times in Apollo 8 - and gave President Lyndon B. Johnson, then at the end of his presidency, a much needed boost at Christmas.
