The introduction of the Bounce Rule.

The VFL Victorian Football League (later AFL) was enjoying its 70th season.

Due to congestion of play rules were drawn up to confine the bounce square and the number of players to take part within it when the Centre Bounce took place. After much trial and error the rule became a permanent change in 1973.
